ABOUT THE BAND

Dr V’s Swing Thing is a jazz big band comprising graduates of the Sydney Grammar School Jazz Department and invited guests.  Formed in 2004, the band has performed in numerous venues including Soup Plus, private functions around Sydney, Darwin Yacht Club, as well as regular gigs at Wangaratta’s world-famous Jazz Festival, Manly Jazz Festival, and the lunchtime concerts at Angel Place Recital Hall.  In 2016 the band added Clarence Jazz Festival to its list of regular gigs.

The band is directed by Vlad Khusid, Head of Jazz at the School, and a fine trumpet-player in his own right in groups including Monsieur Camembert, the Black Train Band, and Marsala.
